Pakistan vs South Africa 2021, 1st Test: Day 3 – Pakistan End The Day With Big Smile Due To Late Wickets

Despite getting a strong and solid start in their second innings, the visitors South Africa ended the day three of the Karachi Test in tensed due to losing quick wickets at the late moment of the day. The hosts Pakistan spinners brilliantly put back their team into the game

Starting the day on their overnight score of 308/8, Pakistan lower-order batsmen added 70 runs before getting all out as they scored 378 runs. While the visitors scored 220 runs in the first innings, the hosts got the big first innings lead of 158 runs. At the stumps of the day, South Africa scored 187/4 in their second innings as they have the lead of 29 runs.

Pakistan vs South Africa 2021, 1st Test: Day 3 – Yasir Shah and Nauman Ali put the 55 runs partnership for the last wicket

After quickly adding 15 runs in the morning, Pakistan’s ninth wicket was fallen in the second over of the day as Kagiso Rabada bowled Hasan Ali (21). But then, debutant Nauman Ali and Yasir Shah put the 55 runs partnership for the last wicket. After getting frustrated, Keshav Maharaj finally ended that innings by dismissing Nauman Ali for 24 runs. Yasir Shah remained not out for 38 runs off 37 balls.

Kagiso Rabada (3/70) and Keshav Maharaj (3/90) finished that innings with three wickets each while Anrich Nortje (2/105) and Lungi Ngidi (2/57) bagged two wickets each.

Pakistan vs South Africa 2021, 1st Test: Day 3 – Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen scored half-centuries

At the lunch of the third day, South Africa scored 37/0. Openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar put the 48 runs partnership for the first wicket before Yasir Shah dismissed Elgar (29), thanks to wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan’s stunning catch.

But then Markram and Rassie van der Dussen set up the solid second wicket partnership that helped the visitors to comfortably earn their crucial lead.

Both Markram and Van der Dussen completed their half-centuries in that big partnership as they set up 127 runs partnership for the second wicket. While it was seemed that South Africa would end the day in strong way, they lost the grip in more than last half-an-hour.

At first, Yasir Shah broke that partnership by dismissing Van de Dussen, who scored 64 off 151 balls (5 fours). Soon, debutant Nauman Ali got the wicket of opener Markram, who scored 74 off 224 balls (10 fours). Just three balls later, Yasir got another wicket as he trapped Faf du Plessis (10) for the lbw.

At the stumps of the day, Keshav Maharaj was batting on 2 runs while captain Quinton de Kock yet to open his account.
