The Test series between Pakistan and Proteas will be a part of the 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship as it will be their first meeting in this competition.
After the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket bus in March 2009, Pakistan have hosted only three Tests – two Tests against Sri Lanka in December 2019 and one Test against Bangladesh in February 2020. However, the Test series against Proteas will be the first Test series in Pakistan with the non-Asian opponents since October 2007. Incidentally, South Africa were the last non-Asian side to play a Test in Pakistan (at Lahore in October 2007).
Also, the first T20I of this Pakistan tour will be the first-ever T20I match in this country for the Proteas side.
