The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup 2023 in India if the Men in Blue didn’t want to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 in September. Former leg-spinner Danish Kaneria said that Pakistan can’t afford to miss out on the World Cup in India later this year, even though India is not visiting Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

Pakistan is expected to host the Asia Cup in their country for the first time in 14 years. According to reports, the tournament has been shifted from Pakistan and is likely to be held at a neutral venue. The BCCI secretary and ACC president, Jay Shah stated that Indian players will not travel to Pakistan for the competition due to diplomatic tensions.

Pakistan Just Can’t Afford To Miss Out – Danish Kaneria

In a video on his YouTube channel, Danish Kaneria said Pakistan could not afford the losses by boycotting the ICC event in India.

“Former PCB chief Ramiz Raja has also made some bold statements, but the question is whether they really have it in them to take a strong stance and say that they won’t travel to the World Cup. The amount of money invested and marketing that happens in any tournament in India, Pakistan just can’t afford to miss out. I feel they might have to bow down to the ICC and say that they are available for the World Cup.”

“Pakistan will face heavy losses if they choose to boycott the World Cup. It’s an ICC tournament and so they won’t get their share of revenue. The PSL, which is such a huge brand of Pakistan cricket, will also get damaged.”

It will be interesting to see the official decision of the ACC regarding the Asia Cup venue after the final meeting in March. India has not visited its neighborhood for 15 years. The team last visited Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2008, and the bilateral series almost ended after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
