Playing For England Will Take Precedence Over Rescheduled IPL: Jos Buttler

England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has said that playing for his national team will take precedence over the rescheduled IPL.

English players were given a go-ahead by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to take part in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite the fact that they had been rested for the winter Test matches against India.

Buttler played a couple of Tests in Sri Lanka and the series opener in India before returning home.  He returned for the white-ball internationals against India before taking part in the IPL.

But with the IPL getting called off midway due to Covid and the fact that it will resume in the UAE in the month of September and October, has posed questions around the availability of the English players in the competition.

England is set to play against Bangladesh and Pakistan in white-ball internationals around the same time and ECB Director of Cricket has already made it clear that no England player will be permitted to take part in the second phase of the IPL.

“Usually the IPL doesn’t clash with any international cricket,” said Jos Buttler as quoted by the BBC. “When it does clash, probably England will take precedence.”

When asked where he expects to be, if there is a scheduling conflict, Jos Buttler said- “Where Ashley Giles says.”

Jos Buttler will return to International cricket this week to feature in the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka after having missed the two-match Test series against New Zealand earlier this month.
