Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed in an unlucky manner as her bat got stuck in the wicket while completing a single against Australia in the first semi-final of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in Cape Town. The Australian wicketkeeper believes that Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal wasn’t unlucky, as the batter could’ve reached the crease had she put forth a genuine effort.

The Women in Blue lost momentum after the fall of Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s wicket, and they suffered a five-run loss. The right-handed batsman scored a brilliant half-century and almost took the team to victory. She completed one run and comfortably ran the second. However, her bat got stuck in the wicket, and she fell short of the run by inches.

I Felt The Need To Take The Bails Off – Alyssa Healy

Speaking with ABC Sport ahead of Australia’s final against South Africa, Alyssa Healy revealed that she usually doesn’t remove the bails in such scenarios. However, it was one such incident where she decided to do it as it was the Indian skipper’s wicket.

“It’s kind of funny actually. Belinda Clarke messaged me and said, well done for taking the bails. And it’s quite an interesting one because I actually don’t take the bails a lot in that sort of scenario. I think it’s a waste of time and I’ve got to put them back on,” Healy said.

“So, it’s annoying. But for some reason, I felt the need to take the bails off and it was like a bizarre moment where I looked at the umpire and said, I think that’s out. And I think Shooter at point was like. I also think that it’s out,” she added.

Probably Could’ve Been Passed The Crease – Alyssa Healy

Healy questioned Harmanpreet Kaur’s efforts during her dismissal, which left India in trouble at 133/5 in the 15th over. Healy disagreed with Kaur’s observation that her dismissal was ‘unlucky’, stating that she could have passed the crease if she had put in the effort.

“So, just a bizarre play. Harmanpreet can say all she likes that it was so unlucky. At the end of the day, she cruised back and probably could’ve been passed the crease, an extra two meters if she genuinely put in the effort. So, we’ll take it,” Healy added.

Harmanpreet scored a half-century of 52 runs off 34 balls, and her dismissal was the turning point for India in a 173-run chase. She was hospitalised for a fever just before the semi-finals due to illness. She was seen in tears after India’s devastating loss in yet another ICC knockout game.
