Imran Khan, Pakistan‘s Prime Minister and PCB’s patron in chief, is titled towards making Ramiz Raja the new PCB Chairman as Ehsan Mani’s contract comes to an end in September. According to the latest reports, Imran Khan won’t be giving an extension to Mani as he isn’t satisfied with him.

Mani was earlier reported to be given another three-year extension, but it seems that Imran Khan has changed his stance over the current chairman. The Prime Minister had brought Mani into PCB when after his party won the general elections in 2018.

Ramiz Raja, who was part of Imran Khan’s 1992 World Cup-winning side, has got the Prime Minister’s backing. The former all-rounder will recommend two names to the board for the coveted post in the next few days, out of which the board will decide their new chairman.

Raja, a renowned commentator now, played 255 International matches for Pakistan from 1984 to 1997. He scored 2833 Test runs at an average of 31.83 and 5841 ODI runs at 32.09. He recorded over 10,000 first-class and more than 9000 List-A runs during his 19-year domestic career.

Ehsan Mani rejected rumours of his resignation

On May 31, Mani had rebuffed the rumours of his resignation. Responding to a question related to former Test wicketkeeper Rashid Latif’s tweet about his resignation’s submission with the prime minister, Mani replied: “[The news] is made up by Rashid Latif.”

Then, speaking to ‘The News’, the PCB Director Media Sami Burni clarified that the rumours were just hoaxes and there was no spine in such news.

Speaking about the Pakistan cricket team, Mani in a statement had said that Pakistan will be hosting the top sides in the world, including Australia, England, New Zealand, at home in the 2021/22 season.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan side currently is in West Indies. They will take on Afghanistan for the first time in a bilateral series next month in Sri Lanka.
