Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s captaincy reminds him of Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar. He said that their captaincy style is similar to the India cricket legends Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, who were part of the Indian team that won 1983 ODI World Cup.
Virat Kohli led the Indian side in all the three formats untill the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in November. Kohli had announced to step down as T20I skipper after the tournament and wished to lead the side only in ODI and Tests. However, selectors wanted to keep a same skipper for while-ball cricket, and they named Rohit Sharma as the new skipper in the T20Is and ODIs.

Virat Kohli More Like Kapil Dev In Captaincy While Rohit Sharma Like Sunil Gavaskar: Ravi Shastri
While speaking to Star Sports, Ravi Shastri said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s style of captaincy is similar to former India captains Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar.
“When you look at the two and compare their captaincy, reminds me of Sunny and Kapil. Kapil the more Virat-like, spontaneous, instinctive, goes with the gut feeling; Rohit, more like Gavaskar– calculated, extremely efficient, very calm and composed. I don’t think the team really worried too much about what was on the outside. They were professionals”, Ravi Shastri said.
Virat Kohli’s removal as ODI skipper got a mixed responses from many cricket fans. Ahead of the New Zealand series last month, Rohit Sharma was promoted as the T20I skipper. Just ahead of the South Africa tour, Virat Kohli was removed as the ODI skipper and Sharma was given the skipper’s responsiblity in the ODIs too.
Ravi Shastri retired from his post of India’s head coach after ICC T20 World Cup 2021, where India faced a humilating first-round exit. Ravi Shastri’s biggest highlight was India winning the Test series in Australia 2-1 early this year. Under Shastri’s tenure, India reached the semi-finals of ODI World Cup 2019 and reached the final in ICC World Test Championship 2019-21. Rahul Dravid is the new head coach of India.
