Ravichandran Ashwin, an Indian off-spinner, has praised the concept of getting more conversations about racism, whether it be in sports or in overall, and believes that improved upbringing and knowledge about the matter can help bring about change.
During their 2021-22 Australia tour, Indian fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were racially harassed by crowds during the historic Sydney Test.

Meanwhile, in the unavailability of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, India’s skipper at the time, recalled the Siraj incident and his conversation with the umpires about taking action against the perpetrators.
“We were adamant about getting the abusers off the ground. When Siraj approached me again (on the fourth day, after being abused the day before), I informed the umpires that they needed to take action and that we wouldn’t be able to play until they did “Rahane stated.

‘I don’t believe it’s about a particular country or ground’: Ravichandran Ashwin
During the historic Sydney Test in their 2021-22 Australia tour, Indian fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were verbally harassed by crowds. Siraj, according to the veteran spinner, showed bravery by bringing attention to the situation.
“I don’t believe it has anything to do with a particular country or region. Yes, it has occurred frequently at a certain venue (SCG) and in that particular location (Australia).”

“But it was brave of him (Siraj) to bring it up so that at least a larger segment of the population is aware of it, and that those sitting next to such people on that ground will most likely do a lot better the next time “He expressed himself.
“So that (racism) is something that must be condemned, but I want to draw your attention to the fact that wherever people are distinguishing individuals on various grounds, which is not fair ” Ravichandran Ashwin continued.
Several times in the past, cricket, which is known as a gentleman’s game, has been tainted by racist slurs and statements, which have brought the sport into shame. Many people have been punished for their crimes, but it still happens from time to time.
