The Rajasthan Royals (RR) fielding coach Dishant Yagnik, who also led Rajasthan in Ranji Trophy, has hailed the 21-year-old all-rounder Riyan Parag as the “next big thing” in Indian cricket.

The young all-rounder plays for Assam in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Riyan Parag, who was a member of India’s 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup-winning squad, was bought by the Rajasthan-based franchise for INR 20 lakh in the third and final round of the player auction before IPL 2019.

Parag has played 47 games in the marquee Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 522 runs at an average of 16.84 and a strike rate of 124.88. With his spin bowling, the youngster has managed to bag only 4 wickets in the cash-rich league.

Overall, the 21-year-old has played 81 T20 games and has scored 1455 runs at an average of 25.98 and a strike rate of 133.24. With the ball, he has bagged 30 T20 wickets.

Riyan Parag Will Be Next Big Thing In T20 Format For India – Dishant Yagnik

On Tuesday, December 13, Rajasthan Royals (RR) fielding coach Dishant Yagnik took to Twitter to make a bold prediction about Parag, saying that the Assam-born cricketer will be the next big thing in T20s in Indian cricket.

“Remember my words-: Riyan Parag will be next big thing in T20 format for India in coming years !!,” the Rajasthan Royals (RR) fielding coach tweeted.

Parag was in brilliant form in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2022. He guided Assam to the semi-finals after smashing sensational 174 runs off just 116 deliveries while chasing 351 against Jammu & Kashmir. His knock helped Assam beat Jammu & Kashmir by 7 wickets. Assam’s run in the tournament came to an end in the semi-finals after they were beaten by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Maharashtra.

Overall, Riyan Parag finished as the fifth-highest run-getter in the tournament with 552 runs from nine innings at an average of 69, including three centuries and a half-century. With the ball, he picked up 10 wickets.
