Head Coach of the Australian team, Justin Langer heaps rich praise on Rishabh Pant after the southpaw took India over the line in an epic chase in Brisbane. India emerged victorious in the fourth and last Test of the series and won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Australian shores for the consecutive time.

Justin Langer, after the game, said that as Pant was taking India to victory, thoughts of Ben Stokes’ heist in Headingley in the 2019 Ashes returned. Justin Langer says that both innings were similar: left-hander, fourth innings chase, against almost the same bowling attack, Australia lost both.

The former Australia opener is also impressed by Shubman Gill, who missed his century by 9 runs at the Gabba.

“It was an amazing effort. (Rishabh) Pant’s innings somewhat reminded me of Ben Stokes’ innings in Headingley actually. He came in, he was almost fearless and he will be lauded because of it. It was an unbelievable innings,” Justin Langer told 7Cricket.

“I thought young (Shubman) Gill (91) batted very well. Their young bowling attack kept us under pressure throughout the match and as I said India deserves full credit,” Justin Langer stated.

Never ever, ever underestimate the Indians: Justin Langer

Justin Langer mentioned a couple of things when asked about the takeaways from this series. He says that never take anything for granted and to never underestimate the Indian side. The 50-year-old is short of words in praise of the visitors, who made a memorable comeback to win the series. India was bundled out for 36 in the first Test, but then won two of the next three matches to seal the series, while battling a wholesale of injuries.

“First, you can never take anything for granted, second never ever, ever underestimate the Indians. There are 1.5 billion Indians and if you play in that first eleven you got to be really tough, don’t you?”

“I can’t compliment India enough. They haven’t gone away after that first Test match which we won in three days, bowled them out for 30 odd. For them to fight back like they did is amazing, credit to them. The big lesson for us is that you can’t take anything for granted. India never got away,” Justin Langer further added.
