Indian captain Rohit Sharma straightforwardly told selectors to make a call on his T20I future. As per the reports in Danik Jagran, it is learned that the opening batter wanted clarity if he will be playing in the T20 World Cup 2024 or not.

After India suffered a disappointing loss in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023, BCCI officials including Secretary Jay Shah, Vice President Rajeev Shukla, and Treasurer Ashish Shelar held a meeting to discuss the roadmap of Indian cricket, especially with T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner.

Skipper Rohit Sharma also attended the meeting via video call as was in London. During the meeting, he asked selectors if they wanted him in the team for the T20 World Cup 2024 or not. The BCCI officials, however, were on the same page and they told the Indian captain that they wanted him as a leader.

“If you want to select me for the T20 World Cup then tell me now how to go about it,” said Rohit in the meeting according to the official.

The reports added that BCCI wanted him to take charge of the T20I team from the upcoming South series. But Rohit Sharma asked for the rest from the white-ball leg of the tour. The officials then made Suryakumar Yadav captain. The batter led India to a 4-1 win in the recently concluded T20I series against Australia.

Rohit Sharma will take charge of the team from the Test series. India will play a two-match series against South Africa from 26th December. The second game will be played on 3rd January. It remains to be seen when he will make a comeback in the T20I team. He hasn’t played in this format since the T20 World Cup 2023.

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has been captaining the team and leading the young guns. He, however, suffered injury during the World Cup 2023 and has been absent since then. He’s currently the vice-captain of the team and is likely to take the leadership when Rohit hangs up his boot.
