Rohit Sharma Ecstatic After His 83-Run Knock Against England In The Lord's Test, Calls It 'The Most Challenging Innings'

Rohit Sharma is very happy after smashing a valuable knock of 83 runs on Day 1 of the ongoing India vs England 2nd Test at Lord’s. The Indian opener called his innings the most challenging one. The right-handed batsman scored 83 runs off 145 balls with 11 fours and 1 six in the match, before losing his wicket to English pacer James Anderson.

Along with his 83 runs in the match, the 34-year-old player also managed a 126-run stand with KL Rahul for the opening wicket. The latter smacked a century in the match, reaching 127 off 248 balls at the stumps of Day 1. With Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul’s fabulous start, India managed to put up 276-3 on the scoreboard at the end of the first day.

It Was The Most Challenging Innings I Have Played, Says Rohit Sharma

While speaking to ANI, Sharma said that he felt very good and happy with his knock. The Indian cricketer also called his innings the most challenging innings he has played in Test.

“I wouldn’t say the best because as long as you are playing. There will be a lot of opportunities that you will be having. But yes certainly challenging, the most challenging innings I have played. I felt very good, I was happy with the way we started off. Unfortunate dismissal but I couldn’t have done anything to that,” Rohit said while replying to a query from ANI.

Sharma also pointed out the challenges faced in Test cricket and how he handles such situations.

“That’s the challenge of Test cricket, you may have lost of shots in your books but when the conditions are against you, you have to keep talking to yourself and cut down the shots unnecessary shots especially with the new ball.

“Once you get the feel of the pitch, once you get the conditions then maybe you can try and play some shots but I think it is important to respect the conditions here. As a batting group, we have done reasonably well right from Australia tour till today, I think batters now understand their role,” he further said.

In the match, England skipper Joe Root won the toss and opted to bowl first. After Rohit Sharma lost his wicket, KL Rahul smacked a century to bag the limelight at the home of cricket Lord’s.

Rahul and Indian skipper Virat Kohli also managed a crucial 117-run stand for the 3rd wicket. At the stumps of Day 1, India reached 276-3 on the scoreboard with KL Rahul (127*) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) on the crease. Kohli departed to the pavilion after scoring 42 runs.
