Rohit Sharma To Be Named India's ODI And T20I Captain After T20 World Cup 2021- Reports
Rohit Sharma To Be Named India's ODI And T20I Captain After T20 World Cup 2021- Reports.

The current white-ball vice-captain of the India National Cricket Team Rohit Sharma is expected to become the next One Day Internationals and T20 Internationals captain after ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

Virat Kohli last month announced that he will be stepping down from captaincy in the T20 Internationals format after the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.

I’ve decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October. The understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all three formats and captaining regularly for the last five to six years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian team in Test and ODI cricket,”- Kohli said in a statement on his Twitter page.

After Virat Kohli’s announcement, there were speculations that Rohit Sharma will be the next Indian captain in T20Is considering the plethora of experience he has. Notably, Rohit Sharma has played 43 Tests 227 ODIs and 111 T20Is for India. Rohit is also the most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 5 trophies in his bag.

According to the latest reports, it is being told that Rohit Sharma will not only be given the T20I captaincy but he will take over ODI captaincy as well considering the small gap between the next T20 and 50-over World Cup.

There’s hardly 12 months left for the next T20 World Cup (in 2022). There’s hardly 24 months left for the (2023) 50-over World Cup. I’m assuming the BCCI will not split white-ball captaincy because that doesn’t make any sense. In that case, if the new captain must start preparing for the World Cup straight away, then is it fair to not let him have a say?” say those who’re tracking Indian cricket from the closest quarters.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will continue to lead India in the longest format of the game and Rohit Sharma will lead India in white-ball cricket.
