Reeza Hendricks, South Africa’s opening batsman, confirmed that Kagiso Rabada stated exactly that on March 26, 2023, following South Africa’s 258-run defeat to West Indies in the second T20I. Hendricks, one of the masterminds behind South Africa’s victory, said that the record-breaking run they went on to complete “would say is similar to the 438 games.”

It would have been totally reasonable for observers to have made assumptions about the home team’s mental state after leaving the field after giving it their best in a game they needed to win in order to tie the three-match series. It likely explains why Kagiso Rabada made sure to cover all of his moral bases.

“Funnily enough, KG said they’re 10 runs short when we went off the field, which probably is similar to what Jacques did for the team,” said Reeza Hendricks in a Post-match presentation.

“We managed to get over the line and play this incredible game.” But it comes across as debatable whether much attention was given to his pity brand of motivation,” Reeza Hendricks said.

“The chat was quite simple, Everybody was quietly confident that this was a good wicket. We never doubted ourselves at any stage. We believed we had the batting order to chase the score down,” Reeza Hendricks added.

The series is levelled now and the two teams will play a decider on Tuesday, 28th of March.
