Former India opener Wasim Jaffer lavished rich praise on Sanju Samson for his performances for the Indian team recently. Samson has been on a roll ever since getting regular opportunities in the second-string Indian team be it in the T20Is or ODIs, he has done well.

After successful performances on Ireland and West Indies tour, Sanju Samson roared back in the home ODI series against South Africa where he made his highest ODI score of 86* in the first match which was played in Indore and he almost took India to win in the match. He scored 118 runs in 3 innings in the series with the best of 86*, hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes.

India won the series 2-1 after winning the last two ODIs in Ranchi and in Delhi. The Delhi ODI proved to be a one-sided affair as South Africa was bowled out for 99 runs and India achieved the target inside 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav picked 4/18, while Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, and Shahbaz Ahmed took two wickets each as well.

Sanju Samson Showed That He Can Be A Consistent Run Scorer For India- Wasim Jaffer

There was a lot of hullabaloos after Sanju Samson was not chosen in the T20I series squad against South Africa as the first match of the series was played in his home ground of Trivandrum in Kerala. But Samson continued to score runs for India A against New Zealand A in the one-day series.

Subsequently, as the T20 World Cup 2022 Indian squad left for Australia after the T20Is, Samson got a chance to showcase his prowess for the Indian team in ODIs. His ability to consistently score runs impressed Wasim Jaffer a lot, who praised him with heart while talking on ESPNCricinfo.

“Sanju Samson has definitely impressed me a lot. There’s always a question mark on his consistency but he showed that in this series. He couldn’t win India the game in the first match but finished the game in the second and remained not out in both (all three) games,” said Jaffer on ESPNCricinfo.

Samson will now have to wait on his next chance as the focus shifts to the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
