Sean Williams had opted out of the T20I series in Ireland and agreed to play in the ODI series, which is part of the ODI Super League. Post which he will be stepping away from the game. According to ESPNcricinfo, he has cited “bio-bubble fatigue and uncertainty over his future as a cricketer” as the main reasons for his decision.

“I can’t see a way forward under coach [Lalchand] Rajput. The environment he has created in the team is bad. There is too much talking and backbiting which creates mistrust,” Sean Williams said while talking to Star FM Zimbabwe.

“I am in a position now where I can go. I am not scared and I will not back down from anyone. My major concern is the future of rest of the players. If they (Zimbabwe Cricket) don’t do something now, guys like Wesley [Madhevere] may go too, and that guy is a national treasure,” he expressed his worries.

Under coach Lalchand Rajput, Zimbabwe have only won four ODIs in three years, all against the UAE. They could lose out on direct qualification to the 2023 World Cup as they are at the bottom of the Super League table.

Craig Ervine will lead the side in Ireland and Scotland. He will be the fifth player since 2020 to lead the side.
