On Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) introduced separate contracts for red-ball cricket and white-ball cricket for its centrally contracted players.

The decision to hand out separate central contracts for red-ball and white-ball cricket was taken during the 69th Board of Governors (BoG) meeting. Also, this new policy will lead to the all-format players earning more money.

Currently, only 5 Pakistan National Cricket Team players are expected to get both white-ball and red-ball contracts, according to a report in Cricket Pakistan.

The five players are all-format captain Babar Azam, star wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, star batter Imam-ul-Haq and star pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali.

Also, Imam-ul-Haq, who recently went past Virat Kohli to claim the No.2 position in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, will reportedly be promoted to A-category.

While talking about the introduction of separate red-ball and white-ball cricket contracts, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja said that the new policy will eventually help Pakistan to develop two different squads, which could simultaneously be engaged in the white-ball and red-ball cricket competition.

“The thought-process behind splitting red and white-ball contracts is to recognise the importance of white-ball cricket in the growth and development of the game. We have four international events in the next 16 months, including two World Cups.

“This recognition of offering contracts to white-ball specialists will help us to eventually develop two separate squads, which could simultaneously be engaged in white and red-ball cricket. This will also allow us to have a bigger spread of talent to showcase to the world.”

Meanwhile, the new list of centrally contracted players is expected to be announced before the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka.

In the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka 2022, the teams will play a two-match Test series and the series will form a part of the ICC Men’s World Test Championship 2021–2023 cycle.

The first Test match of the series will be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium in Galle from July 16 to 20 while the second Test match will be played from July 24 to 28 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
