Shashank Manohar will continue to serve as the ICC Chairman as he was elected unopposedly for the second time on Tuesday (May 15). Consequently, Manohar will serve for another two years.
Manohar will serve his second tenure as an independent Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) as he stood as the only name forward by the world cricket governing body ICC. Meanwhile, Mr Manohar was elected as the chairman in 2016.
Manohar will serve his second-term for a period of two years.
Shashank Manohar said that it is an honour to once again serve as Chairman of ICC. Manohar said as quoted by ICC official website, “It is an honour to be re-elected as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their continued support.Together we have made big strides over the last two years, fulfilling promises I made to the sport when I was appointed in 2016″.
During his maiden stint as ICC Chairman, Manohar was successful in carrying out a new revolution in the game.
Manohar was instrumental in significant reform of the sport, reversing the resolutions of 2014, introducing a revised governance structure. He also included the appointment of the ICC’s first independent female Director and the development of international cricket structures.
The target is to grow the game:
Manohar further added that they are looking to catapult a new global strategy. With the help of these planning, the governing body aims to grow the game globally.
Manohar is of the opinion that the game is in good shape and they would try to make it better.
“Over the next two years we can look forward to launching a global strategy for the sport in partnership with our Members so we can grow the game and ensure more of the world can enjoy cricket.The sport is in good health but we are the guardians of the game. We must continue to work hard to maintain that,” Manohar added.
Meanwhile, according to the election process, ICC Directors were to nominate one member. The one candidate should have been a past or present ICC Director.
Nominees who would have received support from two or more present Directors were eligible to partake in the election.
However, Shashank Manohar was the sole nominee in the process.
Concluding, Edward Quinlan, the independent Audit Committee Chairman was handling the whole process of the election reappointed Manohar as the ICC Chairman to serve his second term.
