Shreyas Iyer Reveals A Hilarious Sledging Incident Involving Him, Matthew Wade And David Warner

It is fair to say that the Australians are one of the best in the business when it comes to on-field sledging, and young Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer got a first-hand experience of the same even before he had made his international debut.
Shreyas Iyer recently appeared on the ‘Grade Cricketers Podcast’ where he opened up about a hilarious sledging incident involving him and Australian players like David Warner and Matthew Wade.
Iyer recounted an incident from a warm-up game between India A and Australia ahead of the latters’ 4-match Test series in India back in 2017.
The Australian team played a three-day warm-up game against India A at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer, who came to bat at No.4, revealed how stumper Matthew Wade tried to get into his skin by suggesting that the right-hander might try to go for a big shot off Nathan Lyon.
“There was chirping. It was the best experience of sledging that I ever had. Because that started before I even had faced a single ball. I will tell you about the incident. I went on to the pitch when we lost two wickets I guess. Before facing the first ball, Matthew Wade from behind was like ‘I have a feeling that he is going to go for a big one from the first ball’,” Iyer said.
Iyer did hit Lyon for a six on the first ball, post which David Warner also joined in as the former SRH captain suggested that the Delhi Capitals cricketer was trying to impress a few IPL captains on the field.
“He (Wade) started talking and then David Warner also came up. I hit a six off Nathan Lyon off my first ball. I didn’t say anything. Thought I should be quiet. Wade said again ‘oh I was right he was going for a big one’,” Iyer said.
“He said ‘there are a few captains of the IPL teams and he is trying to show-off,’ the second ball I hit another four and then went on to make a double hundred,” Shreyas Iyer concluded.
However, the sledging attempt backfired substantially as Shreyas Iyer went on to smash 202 off just 210 balls which included 27 fours and 7 sixes.
