Shubman Gill has impressed the experts again with his strokeplay in the ongoing test and in the process he becomes the youngest Indian opener to score 50 plus runs in fourth innings. The previous record was held by the great Sunil Gavaskar(21Y 243D) when he hit 67* against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1970/71 on his debut and Shubman Gill(21Y 133D) with his 91 at the Gabba in the second innings has broken that record.

Shubman Gill notched up his second half-century

Shubman Gill scored a brilliant half-century in the second innings of the final test for the Border Gavaskar Trophy and he played with a lot of ease. He never looked unstable at the crease and always showed a lot of composure. He failed to reach to his maiden test century as he was dismissed trying to drive and he edged straight into the slip fielder. This was his second fifty in the series and he also finished as the highest run-getter(259) for India in the series while he was dismissed.

The young right-hander from Punjab has given a great headache for India while selecting the test team for the England Series. His valiant knocks have made him a certainty for the England series and India will be looking to continue with this opening pair for a long time. He has cemented his place with the opportunities he has got in this series and his timing was impeccable in the second innings.

Shubman Gill needs to convert his starts

It is important for Gill to convert his good starts in the series to big scores so that he can establish himself in the cricketing world. His partnership was a vital one with Cheteshwar Pujara in the second innings which has put India in a stage where they can either play out the remaining overs for a draw or push for a win. He played all the shots in the book and was always willing to take on the bowlers.
