Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has been appointed as an advisor to the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf, according to Cricket Pakistan. The development has been made keeping in mind the focus on cricket affairs in the country.
Misbah-ul-Haq will join the advisor’s role on an honorary basis, meaning that he won’t take a single penny for his services to the PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf. It is learned that he was offered a full-time role in the governing body but he declined due to his other commitments.
Misbah-ul-Haq himself decided to take the advisor’s role and share his experience and insights to make cricket better in Pakistan, especially domestic cricket. He met with Chairman Zaka Ashraf and the duo discussed the role, keeping in mind the cricket in the country.
Misbah-ul-Haq was the selector as well as the head coach of Pakistan from 2019 to 2021. He stepped down from the role when Ramiz Raja became chairman of PCB in the same year. He took the dual role after the team’s poor outing in Cricket World Cup 2019.
SL vs PAK: I have not been contacted by PCB as of yet – Misbah-ul-Haq
Misbah-ul-Haq earlier this month mentioned that he has not been contacted by PCB for any role and even if they offer he won’t be able to take that immediately because of his commitments. He had said:
“I have not been contacted by PCB as of yet. When they will contact me, then I will see. I already have a lot of prior commitments, whether it is with leagues or with television channels. It won’t be easy to immediately take up a role with the Pakistan team. I will have to see what role will be offered and whether I would be able to do it or not.”
