Talking about the second game between Sri Lanka and South Africa, the hosts batted first and posted a paltry 103 in the first innings. Kusal Perera and B Rajapaksa gave a decent start in the powerplay overs.
After the end of the powerplay, the hosts had managed to score 52 runs for the loss of two wickets. Rajapaksa looked extremely good for his 13-ball 20, including three fours and a six. However, Markram sent him back in the 5th over to end his hopes of converting it into a big knock.
Sri Lanka struggled to get going once spinners were applied from both ends after the powerplay overs. Tabraiz Shamsi and Aiden Markram broke the back of Sri Lanka’s batting unit, picking five wickets between them out of the top six. Wickets kept falling in short intervals as Sri Lanka saw themselves losing 6 wickets for just 86 runs after 13 overs.
Aiden Markram finished with figures of 3 for 21 in 4 overs, while Shamsi continued his dream run as he ended his spell with the bowling figures of 3 for 20 in 4 overs. Sri Lanka, eventually, were folded for 103, with Kusal Perera top-scoring at 30 off 25.
Anrich Nortje picked one wicket for 8 runs in 2 overs, while Fortuin managed to pick 2 for 22 runs in 4 overs.
Quinton de Kock continued his fine form with the bat as he played a gorgeous-looking 58-run knock, off 48 balls in the second innings. He exhibited his range of strokes while scoring seven fours during his knock. Reeza Hendricks (18 off 19) and Aiden Markram (21 off 19), on the other hand, played as second fiddles. Thanks to contributions from the top three, South Africa chased down the target in 14.1 overs.
The third T20 international between the Lankans and South Africa will be played on Tuesday at R Premadasa Stadium.
