The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has denied reports that claimed that he wanted to serve show-cause notice to Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli.

Kohli’s contradictory statements to Ganguly’s claims that he personally requested the 33-year-old to continue as the T20I skipper showed Ganguly in poor light. As a result, he had reportedly drafted a letter to serve a show-cause notice to Kohli.

Now, Ganguly has quashed all such rumours, saying that they are ‘not true at all’ to the Indian Express. The saga regarding Kohli’s captaincy continues despite bigger issues with Indian cricket surfacing after the loss to South Africa in the second ODI in Paarl.

Sourav Ganguly’s statement that was contradicted by Kohli

Kohli announced his decision to step down as the T20I captain after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021. He was subsequently removed as the ODI captain as the BCCI didn’t want to have two separate white-ball captains.

We (BCCI) had requested Virat not to step down as T20I captain. There was no plan to change captaincy. But he stepped down as T20I captain and the selectors decided not to split limited-overs captaincy, opting for a complete separation. Bottom line is that there can’t be two white-ball captains,” Ganguly had said.

In response to Ganguly’s claim, Kohli openly revealed that there were no such conversations in the press conference ahead of the South Africa tour.

Before quitting T20I captaincy, I had approached the BCCI and explained the reasons behind my decision. That was received very well. There was no offence or hesitation,” Kohli mentioned.

Kohli also stepped down as the Test captain after the 1-2 series defeat against South Africa.
