Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh, and they included eight players who are part of IPL franchises ahead of the upcoming IPL 2022 season.

The 3-match ODI series will be played in Centurion and Johannesburg from March 18 to 23. It is just three days away from the start of the IPL season, and considering quarantine rules, some players might have to miss the initial stages.

This includes pacers, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, batters Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, and all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius. They will have to complete a mandatory 3-day quarantine period upon arriving in India.

However, the BCCI is likely to relax the time period if there is a bubble-to-bubble transfer to Mumbai. Unfortunately for the Proteas players, the series against Bangladesh is set to be played in a ‘managed environment’, which is not as strict as a bio-bubble.

Following the ODI series, there will be a 2-match Test series as well from March 31 to April 12. The players will decide whether they want to stay and play for the country or fulfill their contracts with the IPL franchises.

Temba Bavuma will be leading the ODI squad while Keshav Maharaj is the vice-captain. Anrich Nortje continues to be out of action, at least for the ODI series.
