South Africa are set to host the Netherlands for a 3-match ODI series after the completion of the T20 World Cup.

This will only be the second time the two teams will meet in a bilateral ODI series; the first time was in 2013, when the Netherlands played host to South Africa in a one-off match in Amstelveen.

Other than that, the two teams have clashed only in World Cups – in 1996, 2003 and 2011 – with the Proteas emerging victorious on all three occasions.

Graeme Smith, CSA Director of Cricket, said, “CSA is delighted to welcome the Netherlands team to South Africa. This tour will kick start an incredibly exciting international summer of cricket for the Proteas and CSA. The Netherlands brings an exciting flavour to the world game, and we look forward to an exciting series.”

Pholetsi Moseki, CSA Acting Chief Executive Officer, said, “This series is a culmination of our numerous engagements with our Royal Dutch Cricket Association equivalents. The mutual rapport that we both enjoy has stood the test of time, for which CSA is eternally grateful. We are indeed pleased that our two sides will for the first time in history, be locking horns on South Africa’s soil. This tour is also an affirmation that cricket in South is back in full flight after the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

All three matches, which will be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, will be a part of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. Temba Bavuma’s team is currently ninth with 34 points having won three of their nine matches while the Dutch are at the bottom with 20 points, but have played only three games so far, winning two of those.
