Sri Lanka vs India 2021 ODI series commences on Sunday, July 18 with the first ODI. Sri Lanka vs India 1st ODI 2021 will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The match will commence at 3 PM (IST). The series consists of three ODIs. The 2nd and 3rd ODI will be played on July 20 and July 23 respectively at the same venue.

The Indian team last played an ODI series on their home soil against England. The three-match ODI series took place in March 2021. India won the series 2-1, defeating England in the 1st and 3rd ODI. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, recently played an away ODI series against England in June-July 2021. They lost the three-match ODI series 2-0 after facing two losses in the first two games. Sri Lanka vs England 3rd ODI was affected by rain and ended with no result.

The Indian team will be short of its crucial players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant among others, who are currently in England preparing for a forthcoming 5-match Test series against the English team in August. Hence, a different squad with few experienced players and uncapped players has been sent for the Sri Lanka tour.

For Sri Lanka vs India ODI and T20I series, the Indian team is led by Shikhar Dhawan while Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the vice-captain. Uncapped players like Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, Chetan Sakariya, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Krishnappa Gowtham have also been given an opportunity to represent the national side during Sri Lanka vs India tour.

Shikhar Dhawan, who showed a brilliant form during India vs England ODI series and also IPL 2021, is expected to continue with his wonderful batting form against Sri Lanka as well.

Newcomers Suryaumar Yadav and Ishant Kishan, who started their international journey with a half-century in T20Is against England earlier this year, are also expected to come up with a good batting show in the ODI series. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has been out of most of the international games since 2019, will get enough opportunities to showcase his spin attack.

Sri Lanka suffered a big blow ahead of the series when their regular skipper Kusal Parera was ruled out of the entire Sri Lanka vs India ODI and T20I series due to a shoulder injury. Dasun Shanaka has been handed over the captainship of the team while Dhananjaya de Silva is the vice-captain for Sri Lanka vs India ODI series as well as the T20I series.

Wanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjaya de Silva who smashed a half-century in the ODI series against England are in good form among batsmen. Dasun Shanaka will also attempt to showcase his best batting show as he has a big responsibility as the team’s skipper.

Shanaka played two brilliant knocks of 48 and 47 in the ODI series against England, so he will be confident with the bat. Bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Chamika Karunaratne picked 3 and 2 wickets respectively in the three-match ODI series against England. They will aim to come with a good bowling show against India.
