ToggleSri Lanka vs South Africa Live Streaming, Prediction- 2nd ODI. Sri Lanka kick-started the white-ball series against South Africa on a winning note after registering a 14-run win over South Africa in the first ODI on Thursday. Avishka Fernando starred with the bat, scoring a mouth-watering 118-run knock-off 115 balls. He set the tone for a mammoth 300-run total posted by the Lankans at R. Premadasa Stadium in the first innings.
Fernando scored 118 runs off 115 balls, a knock which was laced with 10 fours and 2 sixes. His opening partner, M Bhanuka managed 27 off 39 balls, while Rajapaksa got out on a duck.
Dhananjaya de Silva, however, played a vital 44-run knock and thereby provided great support to Fernando in building the innings. Asalanka too has continued to impress one and all with his batting exploits. He scored 72 off 62 deliveries. Thanks to significant contributions from all these top-order batsmen, Sri Lanka notched 300 runs in the first innings.
South African seamers had a forgettable outing on Thursday. Rabada and Anrich Nortje combined to pick 2 wickets for 135 runs in 20 overs. Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs.
The Proteas too made a decent start with the bat in the second innings. Markram and Janneman Malan added 49 runs for the opening wicket before the latter got out leg-before off Hasaranga in the 10th over. Markram, however, continued his fireworks and along with Temba Bavuma carried the innings further.
It was a day to savor Markaram’s brilliance with the bat. He scored 96 runs off 90 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. Unfortunately, he got out in the 30th over, which caused a shift in momentum. Rassie van der Dussen, however, kept South Africa’s hopes alive. He too scored a good-looking 59-ball 59.
However, once he got out, the target kept going out of reach from the Proteas. In the end, South Africa fell 14 runs short of the target. Akila Dhananjaya took two crucial wickets with the ball, while Karunaratne, Hasaranga, and Jayawickrama picked one apiece.
Sri Lanka and South Africa will play the second one-day international on Saturday at R Premadasa Stadium.
