Cricket Australia’s Sports Integrity Officer, Darren Murphy has said that Australian batsman Steve Smith should be a lot more watchful of his actions on and off the field. Murphy claimed that he has been under the radar more than any other Australian player ever after the Sandpapergate took place in South Africa.
Notably, Steve Smith has found himself in a lot of controversies after the third Test at Sydney came to a close. The veteran Australian batsman was seen scuffing the pitch during the final day of the third Test between Australia and India. Cricketing legends, past and present, have fired shots at him for his poor act. However, the Australian cricketing fraternity has backed him after the incident.
Cricket Australia’s Sports Integrity Officer Warns Steve Smith To Be Watchful Of His Actions
A Sports Integrity expert with Cricket Australia has warned the world-class batsman to be careful of his on-field actions.
“With Steve Smith he’s obviously under a lot of attention by the world media and I just think you’ve got to be really careful with how your actions and behaviour are perceived – and he’s under the microscope more than others,” Chief Executive Officer of Core Integrity, Darren Murphy told 7NEWS.com.au.
“Whether his actions constitute cheating, it’s not for me to say. (But) once you transgress in a sport, whether it’s for off-field behaviour issue or elsewhere, you’ve got to expect you’re going to be under the microscope,” Murphy added.
