Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif marvelled over Suryakumar Yadav’s confidence while playing the Sri Lankan bowlers on sluggish, spin-friendly pitches on the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka.

On Sunday in the first T20I of the series, Suryakumar Yadav, who was Man of the Series in the ODIs, notched up his second T20I fifty in just his third T20I innings. His knock of 50 runs off 34 balls, laced with 5 fours and a couple of maximums, helped India post a total of 164, which the hosts fell short by 38 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav had started his international career, earlier this year in a T20I versus England, with a six off the first ball he faced, from fast bowler Jofra Archer. The right-hander just hasn’t looked back, and is a shoo-in in not only India’s squad for the T20 World Cup, but also in the playing eleven.

Mohammad Kaif took to Twitter to hail the Mumbai batsman’s supreme form. Suryakumar Yadav stormed into the Indian team on the back of staggering domestic and IPL form, which Kaif appreciated.

“Surya Kumar Yadav these days plays his first ball like he already has a 100 to his name. No nerves, no doubts, in total control. Always great to see a domestic star do well internationally,” Kaif tweeted.

We enjoy watching Suryakumar Yadav bat: Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan,  India‘s captain for the Sri Lanka tour, was effusive in praise for the right-hander who helped the team to a defendable total after the fall of Prithvi Shaw and Sanju Samson. Dhawan hailed him as “a great player”; the left-hander said Yadav’s batting is pleasing to watch, and with his attacking approach, he takes the pressure off the non-striker.

“He (Surya) is a great player, and we enjoy watching him bat. He took the pressure off me, and the way he plays calculated shots was amazing to watch. I feel we played quite well after losing early wickets. It was about one or two boundaries; we knew we could get going,” Dhawan said at the post-match presentation.

The second T20I is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the same venue.
