Suryakumar Yadav Will Be In India's T20 World Cup Squad - Aakash Chopra

Former India batsman Aakash Chopra has boldly predicted that Suryakumar Yadav will make the cut-in for India’s T20 World Cup squad. The tournament will take place in Oman and UAE in October-November, where India has been drafted in Group 2 with Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two qualifier teams.

Aakash Chopra’s statement came after Suryakumar Yadav once again put up an attractive performance with the bat in the second ODI versus Sri Lanka. The right-hander scored 53 runs off 44 balls. He counter-attacked Sri Lankan bowlers after India had lost its top three. Yadav’s scores in his 4 international innings so far read: 57 off 31, 32 off 17 (in T20Is vs England), 31 off 20, and 53 off 54 (in ODIs vs Sri Lanka).

The 43-year-old commentator remains confident that Yadav will surely make the 15-man World Cup squad.

“Let me put my neck on the block, I am saying Suryakumar Yadav will be in India’s T20 World Cup team although there will still be debate and competition, but I feel he will pip somebody to the post,” Aakash Chopra said in his YouTube video.

“There is only a 15-member squad in the ICC events but this player will make his place in that fifteen, he has been absolutely sensational,” he added.

Aakash Chopra underlined that Yadav’s brilliant amount and rate of run-scoring post the powerplay overs in the last couple of years has put him in good stead for T20 World Cup. He is impressed by the Mumbai Indians’ star’s ability to find boundaries even when the field restrictions are up, and believed Yadav is almost a lock in the middle-order.

“Suryakumar Yadav is a different kind of player. Two years ago, Suryakumar Yadav used to bat up the order and was unable to score runs after the powerplay. But now the game we have seen, he is batting at No.5, he plays as though he is made for that position. The Indian team could need someone at No.5.

“The clouds can cover Surya’s shine for some time but cannot hide it. The Surya eventually shines and this Surya has shone once again, he has smashed a half-century,” the former opener stated.
