Aakash Chopra has highlighted that the first Test between Team India and Sri Lanka will solely be remembered for Ravindra Jadeja’s performance.

In India’s first innings in the Mohali Test, Jadeja hit an unbroken 175 runs. He then took nine wickets in Sri Lanka’s two innings, handing the visitors an innings and 222-run thrashing.

Aakash Chopra chose Jadeja as his Player of the Match in a video posted on his YouTube channel. He reasoned as follows:

“Sir Ravindra Jadeja will be remembered for this match. Ravindra Jadeja has to be the player of the match. The complete XI did not manage to score 175 runs. Sri Lanka were unable to score 180 runs in either inning, and this man had made 175 runs and stayed unbeaten.”

Jadeja has even broken Kapil Dev’s Indian record for the best Test score by a player batting lower than No. 6, according to the former Indian batsman. Chopra continued, ”

“After that, he had nine wickets in his possession. It indicates that he was a world-class cricketer. When he returned from injury, everyone was anticipating his return since the runs he scored at the number he batted put him ahead of Kapil Paaji.

 According to Aakash Chopra:

The development of Jadeja the batter over the last 12-18 months has cemented his status as not just one of the best all-rounders, but the best all-rounder of all time.

He has perfect confidence in his game, whether it’s against fast bowling or spin, at home or away, and in whatever position you force him to bat. The hitter, Jadeja, is at a different level of cricket.

India and Sri Lanka will now go south to Bengaluru for the second and final Test after winning the first in under three days. While one might expect interest levels to drop following the one-sided affair in Mohali, this is not the case.
