The More Overs Kuldeep And Chahal Bowl, The More Success They Will Have: VVS Laxman

Former Indian middle-order batsman VVS Laxman conceded that Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav need to get more and more overs under their belt to gain confidence. The duo is amongst the spinners chosen by the selectors in the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. VVS Laxman stated Kuldeep and Chahal must play all three One-day internationals to regain form and confidence.

In his most recent performance for India, Kuldeep Yadav was one of the most expensive bowlers. It transpired against England in Pune when the Kanpur-born cricketer conceded 84 in ten overs without a wicket as the tourists chased down 337 successfully within 50 overs. Yadav’s mediocre international outings have meant that he has not been able to nail a place in Kolkata Knight Riders’ playing XI either. Chahal has delivered reasonably good performances; however, he needs to gain more consistency.

VVS Laxman claimed he would like to see them playing all three ODIs since the more games they play, the more success they would enjoy. The 134-Test veteran believes that it is essential for Kuldeep to regain his confidence, while conceding that Chahal remains a crucial member, leading up to the World Cup.

“I would like to see them playing three ODIs because there are six spinners. I think in ODIs, each bowler will get to bowl ten overs. So the more overs they bowl, the more success they have, they will get back the confidence, especially Kuldeep Yadav. Chahal is a successful and experienced bowler. He is high on confidence and a very important member, keeping in mind the T20 World Cup. I think Kuldeep requires to get his confidence back,” Laxman said as quoted by Times of India.

VVS Laxman further said he was excited to see Suryakumar Yadav bat at number three, observing how he struck a six against a quality fast bowler like Jofra Archer facing his first international delivery. The cricketer-turned-commentator opined the upcoming series is a massive opportunity for Yadav to showcase his skill. Laxman said he is keen to see the elegant right-handed batsman thrive at the international level as well.

“I was excited seeing the way Suryakumar Yadav batted at No.3. His first scoring shot in international cricket, that too against a quality fast bowler like Jofra Archer, shows the kind of confidence, the talent and the skill he possesses – this is a great opportunity! “I want him to play all six matches because he is someone who can definitely walk into the T20 World Cup squad, as far as I am concerned. I want him to grow and gain the confidence of scoring runs, even at the international level,” he added.
