Shukla will now have to resign from the BCCI as the constitution doesn’t permit any public servants to hold the BCCI office. While talking about his resignation Shukla said that his term will start next month and he has time left to make a decision on that.

“My term will start only next month. The elections are held early and the swearing-in takes place next month. There is some time left,” Shukla told Cricbuzz.

As per Rule 7.2, the BCCI vice-president shall officiate when the president of the body is unavailable due to some reasons.

“The Vice-President shall officiate in the President’s absence, when the President is unavailable; The Vice-President shall exercise such functions and duties as he may be empowered with by the General Body or the Apex Council,” Rule 7.2 that defines the role of the vice-president.

Meanwhile, the BCCI constitution states that the office-bearers, which include the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer are not allowed to hold the BCCI office if they are a minister or government servant.

“A person shall be disqualified from being an Office-Bearer, a member of the Governing Council or any committee or any similar organisation if he or she… is a Minister or Government Servant or holds a public office…”
