Former Indian batsman Dilip Vengsarkar has opened up on India’s chances in the upcoming England tour. The Indian team will embark on a three-month expedition to England, where they will play six Tests. It starts with the ICC World Test Championship final on the 18th of June against New Zealand, followed by five Tests against Joe Root’s men in August. Dilip Vengsarkar highlighted that this would be India’s best chance to win in England.

Dilip Vengsarkar is one overseas batsman, who has tasted enormous success in England, scoring four centuries, including three in his first three appearances at the picturesque Lord’s Cricket ground. Vengsarkar made 103 in 1979, 157 in 1982, and 126 not out in 1986, becoming the only foreign batter to make more centuries at the iconic venue. His batting average of 48 in England is the best outside India.

As for India, they are yet to win a Test series in England since Rahul Dravid’s men beat them in their backyard in 2007. The last two visits have seen the Englishmen rule over India and their lack of application and technique against seam has been the significant reason behind the tourists’ loss. India lost 3-1 in 2014 and 4-1 in 2018. But having shown tremendous form in the past few months, experts have deemed this as India’s best chance to emerge victorious in England.

Dilip Vengsarkar recalled being the chief selector in 2007 when they registered a Test series win in England. The 65-year old believes it’s Virat Kohli and co.’s greatest chance to make it a victory in England as they have all their bases well covered.

“In 2007, I was the chairman of the selection committee when we won the Test series in England. Happy memories. This is the best chance for Kohli and his team as he has a good bowling attack too. We have got good batters. India has the best chance to win the series,” Vengsarkar told News18.com.
