The India national selection committee will likely undergo a significant restructuring, possibly with a new Chairman. Abey Kuruvilla left his position as the West Zone selector in February, but the position has not yet been filled.

The BCCI plans to add two more fresh faces to the committee’s current five.

The BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated, “We will soon form a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which will follow the procedure and appoint the new selection committee.”

According to information, Sunil Joshi, the selector for the South Zone, and Harvinder Singh, the selector for the Central Zone, will both be leaving their positions by the end of the year. The BCCI made it clear in a statement that “the CAC will review the candidates after one year and make the recommendations to the BCCI” when the selection committee was last reconstituted in December 2020 with Chetan Sharma as the Chairman.

India’s Chief selector Chetan Sharma is expected to stay:

Chetan Sharma, the chief selector for India, is anticipated to stay. The other candidates in the running would determine whether he stays as the selector in chief. According to BCCI regulations, the selector who has participated in the most Tests automatically advances to the position of Chief Selector.

This rule, which went into effect following the BCCI constitution’s revision in response to the Lodha reforms, has drawn some criticism from some board members. Test cricket is no longer the only format of cricket played, so the need for a new selection committee also reflects the requirement for selectors who are familiar with the T20 format.

Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, members of the team management, have recently been actively involved in T20 selection processes, with rest and rotation being used as part of World Cup planning.

The BCCI constitution places a five-year term limit on each cricket committee member. Debashish Mohanty, the East Zone selector, also has less than a year left in his post as a result of that rule.
