Former Indian captain and the current president of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, has heaped high praise on Team India and especially on the trio of Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, and Ravichandran Ashwin for spearheading the visitors to an epic draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

On what turned out to be an epic day of Test cricket, fans witnessed everything that makes the longest format of the game such a beautiful beast.

It was a day where we saw the defiance, grit, and tenacity of Cheteshwar Pujara, the flamboyance of Rishabh Pant, and ‘over my dead body’ attitude by Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin as the duo, despite not being 100 percent fit, batted for more than 4 hours and fifty overs to help India script a memorable draw; one that will be remembered as one of the shining moment in their proud cricketing history.

The day started with India losing an early wicket in the form of their skipper Ajinkya Rahane. But post that, Cheteshwar Pujara, who has copped a lot of unnecessary criticism for his slow batting, and Rishabh Pant, who was coming off an injury, took center stage.

While Pujara [77 off 205 balls] continued to defy the Aussies with his rock solid technique and defiance, Pant, on the other hand, launched a stunning counterattack, one that took the home side by surprise.

The duo posted 148 for the 4th wicket but the job still wasn’t done yet and post their dismissals, it was down to a hamstrung Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin to continue with the good work.

Vihari held the fort from one end while Ashwin once again displayed just why he is one of the calmest heads going around as he withstood everything that Australia threw at him- including shameful sledge from Tim Paine- to ensure that Team India defied Australia the victory.

Ganguly was full of praise for the trio of Ashwin, Pant, and Pujara. He also hoped that fans and pundits will now realize the value that the aforementioned names bring to the Test team. He signed off by urging Team India to now win the series in Brisbane.

”Hope all of us realise the importance of pujara, pant and Ashwin in cricket teams..batting at 3 in test cricket against quality bowling is not always hitting through the line ..almost 400 test wickets don’t come just like that..well fought india..time to win the series,” Sourav Ganguly tweeted.
