Indian batsman Manoj Tiwary has lauded Indian captain Virat Kohli for inculcating a fitness culture in Indian cricket and motivating the youngsters to work on that. Virat Kohli has always been a hard worker and is always ready for challenges. The best example for it is the way Kohli has shaped his body after entering into international cricket and he has set the standards high with his fitness levels now.

Due to his excellent fitness levels, India made it mandatory for the players to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ Test and the results have been seen through the excellent fielding standards set now by India. Kohli has played a huge part in it and has impacted the overall sports community to take up fitness seriously. Also, a new “2-km run” fitness Test has been introduced which the Indian cricketers have to go under the grind to stand a chance of national selection.

Tiwary Praises Kohli For Setting High Standards

Tiwary Credited Kohli a lot for the fitness levels that India have brought in apart from being a prolific run-scorer. He mentioned the second innings in the first Test where Kohli held up one end and managed to score more than 70 while the other batsman struggled a lot.

“A lot of credit has to go to Virat Kohli for bringing in that (fitness) mindset, especially after the last phase of MS Dhoni’s captaincy. He brought a change in the fitness levels. As always, he has remained a prolific run-scorer.

“Even on a pitch where others struggled in Chennai, Kohli was out there scoring runs. Apart from the runs, he also brought in a fitness culture. He knew fitness would take the Indian side to a different level. That’s how the yo-yo tests came in,” said Manoj Tiwary.

Kohli Emphasizing Budding Youngsters Says Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary also mentioned that Kohli has shown the path for the youngsters in the country taking fitness into account in domestic cricket. Manoj Tiwary has been one of the best fielders India has produced but couldn’t play for India long due to injury issues.

“Even the budding youngsters in domestic cricket emphasise fitness knowing that if they aren’t fit enough, they don’t have a chance to represent India,” added Manoj Tiwary.
