Former Indian cricketer Chandu Borde said Virat Kohli had an aggressive approach for playing cricket since the early days of his career. Before entering the international stage, Kohli proved his credentials by leading the Indian team to the U19 World Cup in 2008.

It is no hidden fact that Kohli brings a lot of emotions in his game and displays aggression on the pitch. Be it a wicket of the opposition batter or smashing a rival bowler, Kohli has been vociferous on the field and is required he would also get under the skin of his nemesis.

Virat Kohli likes to do something all the time: Chandu Borde

Borde, who played 55 Test matches for India, talked about his personal experience while coaching the star Indian player during the early stage of his career. The 87-year-old Borde said Kohli is someone who will always be eager to learn and come up with his own inputs and called him an exciting cricketer.

“When he was 17 or 18, North Zone had a coaching camp in Mohali. Kohli was one of the players, and I was sent by the BCCI to coach him and the rest of the guys. I saw him have a very aggressive approach in the nets also. When you tell him something, he would try to make use of the suggestions in the nets and try to correct himself,” Borde told News18.com.

“He puts across his points, has his opinion and does not back out. He accepts points and suggestions only when he is convinced. He doesn’t like to stand and watch others. He likes to do something all the time. He’s been an exciting cricketer right from childhood. He wants to keep on moving. He does not stick to one place. He wants to be in the game all the time when he is on the field,” he added.

Virat Kohli respects senior players: Chandu Borde

Just after Kohli was forced out of India’s ODI captaincy ahead of the South Africa tour in December, there were a lot of reports that suggested that the senior Indian player was in a tussle with the BCCI president and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Borde said that Kohli respects all of his senior players and shared his personal incident during the Pink-Ball Day-Night Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata.

“He respects senior players. I met him two years back during the day-night match in Kolkata. The moment he saw me, he came and greeted me. There are some cricketers who still have respect for old cricketers, and Virat Kohli is one of them,” Borde asserted.

Kohli recently played his 100th Test match against Sri Lanka at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali. Kohli has scored 23614 international runs from 509 innings across all three formats and has also achieved 70 international hundreds (27 in Tests and 43 in ODIs).
