Former Pakistan bowler Shoaib Akhtar has urged Virat Kohli to forget about his captaincy and concentrate solely on his batting. Following a disappointing tour of England, the former India captain has come under fire.

Last year, the star batter gave up his captaincy in T20I and Test cricket to concentrate on his batting. Meanwhile, the BCCI chose Rohit Sharma to captain the ODI team, leaving Kohli without any leadership responsibility.

Virat Kohli Has To Score 30-40 More Hundreds: Shoaib Akhtar

Akhtar believes that Kohli must let go of his time as captain of the Indian team in order to rediscover his batting stroke. On his YouTube channel, the former pacer stated:

“There are some things that Kohli himself has to set. I have been saying this repeatedly; he has to step aside from the phase where he was captain and eye of the media and only focus on his batting. All of this stuff is happening so that Kohli can grow and be even bigger. He has to score 30-40 more hundreds.”

Virat Kohli’s problems have followed him across forms. During the Edgbaston Test, he took a cautious approach but was unable to contribute significantly. During the just finished series against England, he shifted gears for a more aggressive strategy, but it didn’t work out either.

Virat Kohli Just Needs To Go And Recollect, Compose And Focus: Shoaib Akhtar

Shoaib Akhtar advised Kohli to stick it out and stay at the crease as long as possible while batting:

“He should not fear in this situation. He is a strong person, just needs to go and recollect, compose and focus. He should understand that he will not get runs by hitting from the go, runs are made after staying at the crease, it is simple logic. There are some things that he is not being unable to implement, but he is not giving himself enough time at the crease.”

Beginning later this month, the Men in Blue will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against the West Indies. Virat Kohli is rested for the series.
