Rajkumar Sharma revealed that Virat Kohli used to get angry in his initial days as the Indian cricket team’s captain.

Kohli recently relinquished India’s Test captaincy role after the team suffered a series defeat to South Africa 1-2.

Kohli has now relinquished his captaincy duties from all formats after giving up the T20I leadership after the T20 World Cup in November last year.

Just ahead of the South Africa tour, he was replaced with Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain as the selectors didn’t want two white-ball captains for India.

Rajkumar Sharma explains how Virat Kohli would lose his cool in early captaincy days

Rajkumar Sharma, who is Kohli’s childhood coach, recalled the time when he had to calm his ward and bring to his notice about the struggles of his teammates.

Initially when Virat Kohli became captain, he used to get very angry. If someone dropped a catch, he used to react. I explained to him that not everyone is exceptionally talented like him,” Rajkumar Sharma said on YouTube channel Khelneeti.

Nobody wants to drop catches or play poorly on a cricket ground. You have to get the best out of them and not expect others to do what he can do. He accepted it and mellowed down. He started encouraging the players and has had a major role to play in building this team,” he added.

Virat Kohli has no ego: Rajkumar Sharma

There have been many speculation stories that Kohli and India’s newly white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma do not get along with each other.

Things were once again blown out of proportion when reports suggested that Kohli would skip the ODI series as he didn’t wanted to play under Rohit.

Rajkumar Sharma rubbished all the conspiracy theories about the rift between Kohli and Rohit. Rajkumar said Kohli has no ego and will very much contribute whether he plays under Rohit or his deputy KL Rahul.

Kohli has no ego. If he had, he wouldn’t have left the captaincy. He has supported and backed both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. In fact, many times he dropped seniors to accommodate Rohit because he rated the batter highly. Rohit has gone on to prove himself as a world-class batter. He has had good things to say about KL as well,” Rajkumar said.

“Kohli himself would want to contribute. I don’t think there will be any kind of pressure on Rahul. He (Kohli) is ready to play under another captain. In the past, Tendulkar, Dravid and Dhoni have also done it. KL will get support from Kohli, just like the latter received from Dhoni,” he added.
