Shahid Afridi was speaking with reporters when he was asked about Virat Kohli’s challenges with the bat. The former Pakistan skipper provided a straightforward response to the question.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli has been struggling with the bat in recent months. The batsman struggled to cross the 20-run mark during the recently ended tour of England, where he played in the rescheduled fifth Test, two T20Is, and as many ODIs.

The veteran cricketers continue to talk about Kohli’s problems at the plate despite speculations that the batsman would return to the team for the three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. When questioned about the former India skipper, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi responded in a quite direct manner.

“Why would he be interested in my suggestions? Because Virat has such high expectations of him, he must deliver. And for a very long time, he has not given a performance that met the standards he had set for himself,” Afridi remarked in an interview with reporters that was captured on camera and shared by Sports Paktv.

The former Pakistani skipper was also questioned over the upcoming matchups between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup later on in the year. Afridi had a statement for the Pakistani team even if he did not address the Indian team.

“The Pakistani team is a balanced side, as far as I am worried. I hope that our efforts will be strong not just in the Asia Cup but also in the World Cup. There does not seem to be much stronger on the bench, so I hope the players are in shape. The 11–12 members of our first squad, though, are quite powerful, and I am hoping they can produce positive results,” said Shahid Afridi.

Virat Kohli was rested for the ongoing West Indies tour, which included three One-Day Internationals and five Twenty20 games.
