Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar spoke about his latest controversy with PTV news anchor Dr Nauman Niaz.
During Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against New Zealand, Akhtar was part of that show as a cricket expert along with West Indies great Sir Viv Richards and England’s David Gower.
While discussing the rise of pace bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf with PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars, Alhtar was interrupted by host Dr Nauman Niaz.
You’re being a little rude and I don’t want to say this: but if you’re being over smart, you can go. I am saying this on-air,” Niaz told Akhtar.
I tried to save everyone from embarrassment: Shoaib Akhtar
A video clip of an argument between the two had went viral on social media, and Akhtar himself took to his Twitter handle to express his version of the story.
Multiple clips are circulating on social media so I thought I shud clarify Dr. noman was abnoxious and rude wen he asked me to leave the show, it was embarrassing specially wen u have legends like sir Vivian Richards and David gower sitting on the set with some of my contemporaries,” Akhtar tweeted on the same day the incident took place.
“Seniors and millions watching. I tried to save everyone from embarrassment by saying I was pulling dr nomans leg with this mutual understanding that dr noman will also politely apologise and we will move on with the show, which he refused to do. Then I had no other choice,” the former Pakistan bowler mentioned in another tweet.
I allowed Dr Nauman Niaz a chance to cover up: Shoaib Akhtar
In his latest video uploaded on his Instagram handle, Akhtar explained that he wanted to walk out of the show because of the obnoxious behaviour of the anchor, but only because Sir Vivian Richards asked him to stay, the former Pakistan player obeyed him.
“I was a national star please accept that, you cannot say anything to a national star on national TV. There were many foreigners sitting in the show, Vivian Richards told me ‘I am ordering you to sit down.’ So I went back. I allowed him a chance to cover up, but he did not say sorry to me,” Akhtar said.
Dr Nauman Niaz did apologise to Akhtar recently in a video posted on Rauf Klasra’s YouTube channel.
