Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Wasim Jaffer believes that the Indian think tank should consider giving the opening spot to the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in T20 International (T20I) cricket.
Rishabh Pant, who is India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman batsman across all three formats, has played 48 T20 Internationals and has scored 741 runs at an average of 23.1 and a strike rate of 123.9, including 3 half-centuries.

He has never opened for India in T20Is and he generally bats in the middle-order for the side. He has batted at No.3 in T20Is on 6 occasions and has scored 117 runs at an average of 29.25 and a strike rate of 127.17.
Pant has batted at No.4 on 22 occasions and has scored 339 runs at an underwhelming average of 17.84 and a below-par strike rate of 121.50. Also, he has batted at No.5 in 13 games and has scored 280 runs at an average of 31.11 and a strike rate of 125.00. He has batted just once at No.6 in T20Is, where he scored just 5 runs.
I think that’s the spot where he can blossom – Wasim Jaffer on Pant opening the innings

On Wednesday, July 6 Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter to state that the wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant can blossom at the opening position in the Indian T20I team. He stated:
“Indian think tank should think about opening with Rishabh Pant in T20Is. I think that’s the spot where he can blossom. #ENGvIND.”

Pant recently scored a century and a half-century in the rescheduled Test match against England. He will next be seen in action when India lock horns with England in the three-match T20I series.

The young wicketkeeper-batsman will miss the first game and he will be available for selection from the second game. Currently, Pant has a lot of competition in the T20I team, despite being considered a first-choice wicket-keeper, as veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been in sensational form in T20 cricket and he is fighting for a spot in the World Cup team.
Meanwhile, the T20I series between India and England will be played on July 7 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, July 9 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, and July 10 at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge.
