Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer singled out multiple positives for Team India from the Nottingham Test while taking a dig at England by stating that the home side got saved by rain.

With 157 more runs needed on the final day and nine wickets in the bank, India looked favorites going into the 5th day but the weather gods had other ideas as persistent rain ensured that not a single ball was bowled on Sunday.

Nevertheless, it was a Test match that India dominated for a major portion.

KL Rahul made a brilliant comeback to Test cricket as he showed remarkable discipline and grit in tough conditions to score 84 in the first innings.

Rohit Sharma once again failed to convert his start into a big knock but he looked extremely assured at the crease and he and Rahul’s opening pair looked the best among both sides.

Jaffer also pointed out Ravindra Jadeja’s crucial half-century in the first innings and the contribution of the Indian tail that helped the visitors take a sizeable lead in the first innings.

He also lauded Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj for claiming crucial wickets during the Test match besides heaping praise on Jasprit Bumrah for his brilliant spell in both innings.

Bumrah was comfortably India’s best bowler in the first Test as he finished with figures of 9/110 which includes a five-wicket-haul in the second innings.

“Rain saved England but lots of positives for India this test” wrote Wasim Jaffer.
