Debutant Harshit Rana bowled with a lot of heart and soul during the first Test between Australia and India in Perth. Rana was quick at times and troubled the batters with his pace and bounce.
On Day 2 of the Test match, the young fast bowler received advice from the former India captain Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli advised Rana to bowl at the body of Nathan Lyon and it immediately paid dividends.
Rana bowled a short-of-a-length ball straight at the body of Lyon. He was uncomfortable with the bounce and tried to fend the ball away. However, the ball took his glove and went straight to KL Rahul at the slip cordon for an easy catch.

It was a brilliant piece of planning and execution from the Indian players which resulted in the wicket. Lyon can be a stubborn tailender at times and has even proved his worth previously as a night watchman. He was dismissed for just 5 runs.
With Lyon's wicket, Australia lost its ninth wicket and were reduced to 79-9. It was the second wicket of the day after Jasprit Bumrah had picked up the wicket of Alex Carey with his first ball of the day.
Second wicket for Harshit Rana
Meanwhile, it was Harshit Rana's second Test wicket after he had picked up the big wicket of Travis Head on Day 1. Rana produced a brilliant delivery to Head which went past the outside edge to clip the top of off stump. It was a dream delivery from the debutant to dismiss Head, who can be a hugely dangerous batter once he gets set.
Virat Kohli had a disappointing first innings with the bat as he was dismissed for just 5 runs in his first outing of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He even dropped a regulation catch at slip earlier in Australia's innings.
Earlier, India were all out for 150 in their first innings as Australian bowlers made full use of the friendly seam bowling conditions on offer. Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored for India with a crucial 41 while wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scored 37.
Josh Hazlewood picked up four wickets while Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Marsh picked up two wickets apiece. Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers with 4-29.
Jasprit Bumrah leads India's fightback
Meanwhile, India fought back strongly with the top three fast bowlers creating havoc in the Australian batting line-up. The strong Australian batting order had no answers to India's top-class bowling and just could not weather the storm.
Jasprit Bumrah led the way for India while Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj also gave him good company. Harshit Rana later went on to pick up the wicket of Mitchell Starc to end Australia's innings on 104, thus securing a lead of 46 runs for India.
