For a number 11 batsman, Mohammed Siraj was too brave to have not only a verbal exchange with the legendary James Anderson but also to bump his shoulder into the England pacer’s shoulders.

This incident happened on Day 3 of the ongoing Test between India and England at Trent Bridge when Siraj was on his adventurous batting expedition against the English pacers, swinging wildly for everything.

During the 84th over, bowled by James Anderson, who had already taken 4 wickets and was looking for his 31st Test fifer, Siraj swung his bat at a shortish delivery and unsurprisingly missed it.

Moments later when he was the non-striker’s end, James Anderson while returning to his bowling mark threw a few words for the Indian pacer; Siraj retaliated with not only words but also went on to bump his shoulder with the English seamer and stared him down for a while. It remains to be seen if Siraj or both of them cop any penalty from the match referee for this physical contact which may have been provoking.

James Anderson becomes third-highest Test wicket-taker

With his terrific 4-wicket haul in India’s first innings, James Anderson went past Anil Kumble’s tally of 619 wickets. The Lancastrian now has 621 Test wickets in his bag and is the third-highest wicket-taker in the longest format. Muttiah Muralitharan with 800 wickets and Shane Warne with 708 wickets are only ahead of him; he was already the leading wicket-taker amongst pacers.

Making his Test debut in 2003, James Anderson averages 26.59 in his 163-Test career. Recently he revealed that he had had doubts over his career when he injured his calf in 2019. But it was his wife, Daniella, who persuaded him to continue.

“A big reason I am still playing cricket is my wife. She’s been really supportive. When I pulled my calf in the first Ashes Test, it was the second or third time I had pulled my calf and I was really considering whether I wanted to go through the rehab again. She basically took us away on holiday and told me to stop being silly. She told me to carry on,” the pacer said ahead of the first Test.
