Australian opening batsman Joe Burns would be relieved ahead of the second Test as he mustered a half-century to script a victory for his side against India in the first Test in Adelaide. Australia sparked a comeback for the ages by bowling out India for their lowest Test total before chasing 90 for the win. Joe Burns conceded that they cannot let India off the leash and need to keep the momentum going.

Joe Burns was in awful touch leading up to the opening Test match in Adelaide. While the Queensland opener faced a good number of balls in the first innings to blunt the new ball threat, he could not get a compelling score. Burns made up for it in the second innings by hammering an unbeaten half-century to give Australia an unforgettable win. On the other hand, India will always see it as a missed opportunity.

Joe Burns revealed that Australia might likely have opened some scars and need to keep the momentum going into the second Test. While the 31-year old believes that Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami are massive losses for India, he believes the visitors have excellent depth and going to be challenging. Burns added that the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne would play a vital role in deciding the fate of the series.

We know we have opened up some scars. We just have to prepare well, start well, carry on the momentum from the first Test. Shami and Virat are obviously big losses for India … it’s always hard to replace world-class players like that. In saying that, the Indian team has very good depth as well. So they’re still going to be very challenging. The next Test is going to play a crucial role in the result of the series,” Burns said as quoted by India Today.

Joe Burns further said that they have the confidence to compete against any team in any venue and did not forget to heap praises on their bowlers. Burns added that he knows that they are going to pile on the pressure on the opposition day in and day out, which is nothing less than a luxury.

“We’re the best team in the world. We’re confident against everyone at every venue. Our bowlers are unbelievable; they have done it for a long time. We know – game in, game out – they’re going to be doing that and putting pressure on the opposition. It’s a great luxury,” he added.
