Former India National Cricket Team batter VVS Laxman, who is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has hailed bus driver Sushil Mann for rescuing young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant after the car crash.
Pant met with a road accident on Friday, December 30, and suffered serious injuries. The accident took place in the early hours of Friday when he was driving from New Delhi to Roorkee in Uttarakhand to pay a surprise visit to his family.

He reportedly dozed off and his Mercedes Benz car collided with the divider railings on the Delhi-Haridwar highway and it caught fire. Pant somehow managed to escape the car after breaking its windscreen.
Following the horrific car crash, Rishabh Pant was taken to Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Centre for treatment and was later shifted to the Max Hospital in Dehradun. Thankfully, despite suffering multiple injuries, Pant’s condition was told to be stable.

Notably, Haryana Roadways also honored Sushil Mann for rescuing Pant, reported PTI.
“We gave them an appreciation letter and a shield in our office when they returned to Panipat,” Haryana Roadways Panipat depot general manager Kuldeep Jangra told PTI.
Speaking to NDTV after the happening, Sushil Mann revealed that he doesn’t watch cricket and didn’t know Rishabh Pant.
“I put my bus on the side and quickly ran towards the divider. thought the car would flip under the bus as it was turning over and over before it stopped,” he said.
“The driver (Mr Pant) was half out of the window. He told me he’s a cricketer,” Mr Mann said, adding the cricketer asked him to call his mother, whose phone was, however, switched off.
“I don’t watch cricket and I didn’t know this is Rishabh Pant is. But others in my bus recognised him,” Mr Mann said.
“After removing Rishabh, I quickly searched the car to check if anyone else was there. I took out his blue bag and Rs 7,000-Rs 8,000 rupees from the car and gave it to him in the ambulance,” he said.
