New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will have one more shot at an ICC title when he participates in the World Test Championship final on the 18th of June in Southampton. India and New Zealand will lock horns in the inaugural final of the ICC World Test Championship to claim the ultimate prize of the longer format. Kane Williamson lauded the idea of such a tournament and is excited to take on India in the decider.

Kane Williamson’s New Zealand were the first to seal their spot in the final, followed by India, who did it in February after beating England at home. The Kiwis have a fair share of momentum in their hands, having beaten India in their last Test series against them. However, Virat Kohli’s men are riding high as well, defeating most teams convincingly along their way. But it is worth noting that Williamson’s team has two Tests against England before the final, allowing them to acclimatize to the conditions quickly than their opposition.

Kane Williamson deemed it as a fantastic challenge to play India in the final. The elegant right-handed batsman said that it’s an exciting challenge to be involved in the final and hopes to emerge victorious.

“It’s really, really exciting to be involved in the final, obviously to win it would be that much better. Whenever you play India, it’s a fantastic challenge. It’s really exciting to be playing them,” Williamson said as quoted by News18.com.

Kane Williamson also believes that the Test Championship has added a context to red-ball cricket, bringing in excitement and games going down the wire. The Black Caps skipper thinks that both teams have had to fight exceptionally hard to win.

“I think we saw the context of the Test Championship. It brought in a real excitement. We saw that in declarations, games getting really tight. Saw it in India-Australia series, our series here against Pakistan with results had to be hard-fought for and you are willing to risk it,” he added.
