Bangladesh take on West Indies in the second of the three-match ODI series in Guyana on July 13, Wednesday. The Tigers lost the T20I series but came back to win the first ODI which was a rain-curtailed encounter. The ODI series is not a part of the ICC ODI Super League.
Both the captains have taken this ODI series very seriously. Tamim Iqbal is leading Bangladesh while Nicholas Pooran is continuing to lead the Windies. Both teams are also trying to approach the format with a new template with teams playing so much of T20I cricket in recent times.
The first ODI saw Bangladesh winning a rain-affected game by 6 wickets. The Windies scored just 149/9 with Mehidy Hasan taking three wickets. The Tigers chased down the score with Mahmudullah scoring an unbeaten 41 after skipper Tamim Iqbal scored 33 at the top.

Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal spoke about not playing well in the Test and T20I series and rectifying things in ODI cricket ahead of the first ODI Bangladesh were cleanly swept away in the two Tests and three T20Is earlier in the tour. Shakib Al Hasan is not a part of the ODI side as the series is not a part of the ICC ODI Super League.
“We definitely tried our best (in Tests and T20Is) but it is also true that we could not play our best cricket. My message will be that in the ODIs we have to try our best and no matter what I say we have to bring our A game to the field and that is the most important thing. I don’t think I have to go and inspire everyone individually because they all are playing for the country and nothing I can be more motivating than this saying that if I have to talk individually (to motivate someone) that I will definitely do,” Tamim Iqbal said ahead of first ODI.

West Indies headed into the ODI series winning the T20I series 2-1. However, they did not put up a good performance in the first ODI in any department. Skipper Nicholas Pooran was disappointed that his batters were not ‘proactive’ in the first ODI. In a sad batting effort from the Windies, Pooran scored 18 while Shamarh Brooks top-scored with 33. His bowlers had nothing to play with as a total to be defended.
“It was difficult to get more batting first on that track. The last wicket partnership gave us a chance. Well played to Bangladesh. It did get better. We could have done better in the powerplay. We need to find ways of putting up runs on the board” said a dejected Pooran after the first ODI.
